Full title: Anemone (Don't Fade Away Before I Can Grow Wings Of My Own)

New art! New art! :boogie:

My official entry for :iconryuuenx:'s Cardboard Angel fanart contest. Cardboard Angel is an amazing, emotionally deep, well-written webcomic (which is also available in print - I placed my preorder a couple weeks ago :love: ). I highly recommend it. I have laughed and cried wholeheartedly while reading it.

For the contest, I drew Mayuko and Yuuji. I don't really see them as a pairing, and I like that about them; their relationship is a pure fan-and-celebrity friendship. Mayuko looks up to Yuuji so much, and he gives her strength because she has so much respect for him. At the same time, I think Yuuji is kind of amazed by how much Mayuko cares about him. I don't want to give away any of the story, but I really like these two.

This has been called "my best work yet," and I have mixed feelings about that. There are parts of it I can point to and say "I could have done that better," but overall I really like it. I'm proud of the hair and the flowers. I also like that I managed to get everything into a color scheme - I have trouble making an actual color scheme, I tend to just throw in colors at random. ^^;

Drawing this was kind of emotional because just as I was inking it, I found out Michael Jackson had passed away. I poured some of my feelings of shock and loss into this piece. It became a lot more bittersweet as I worked on it. And I added the anemones, which in the "language of flowers" (a Victorian tradition assigning meanings to flowers) means "forsaken."

Well, I've rambled enough. Enjoy the piece!

So much I can say about this, but am kinda stuck in traffic right now (don't worry, the hubby's driving) so I can't think straight. I can say, however, this totally makes up for being stuck in traffic :) if that makes sense! I'll have to come back when I'm at my computer and can look at the picture better.

But even from my iPhone, I can tell how much effort you put into this!! You're awesome. :heart: x infinity

Okay! Home, now. Love the colors . . . . especially love the hair and how you shaded it! Love the pose, too, as I've always had problems with making up original poses. I shall be adding this to the site momentarily! :heart:

took me a while to come up with a decent comment for this XD my mind has been a flurry lately.


but this is just...amazing! i especially love the shading on Mayuko's wings. you're getting so good...not that you weren't good in the first place, though ;) but still, this is incredible. you should be proud~ ^^

waaaah ; ; *hugs* thank you so much! I AM proud of this piece, though it's hard for me to pick out how it came out so much better than my others. o.o Maybe it's just because with the comic, I'm drawing a lot more than I used to? Hours-per-day has increased a lot.

This is so beautiful! I'd say more but my brain isn't working right now.

And I'm glad that Michael Jackson's passing has helped give this pictures more substance. But lets not talk about him, I cried about 2 hours yesterday over the Heal the World video and his daughter Paris at the Memorial.

It was good to have an art project to pour the emotions of loss and sadness into. MJ was a legend, no matter what people thought of him, and he's one of the first celebrities to die in my lifetime - or at least one of the first I was really aware of.

Eventualy, I'll post the pages of the scrap book I made for him. T_T I had his songs playing on my sterio all day as I worked on the floor over pages and pages of magazine scraps and photos of him.
