An OC is an original character for an original story based in an original world.
A FC in a fan character made for a semi-original story based on and in a cannon world (like Naruto).
I agree with you so much on this though. I have FCs, and I have OCs, and they do not belong together at all!
So, I'm going to write my own story instead!
I also have two from when I was in elementary school, but I've kind of abandoned them. I'll probably rescue them later; I had several alien species and a language in one of them.
I have about five sets of Characters that live in their own worlds, and yes, I have fan characters aswell, but I find using the Originals more fun.
